BrandShield, a leader in AI-powered digital risk protection, today released its second annual CyberScam Report, revealing that nearly every major brand faced online attacks in 2024—costing organizations millions in damages. The report, based on a survey of 200 Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) from the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe, reveals the prevalence and financial toll of cyberattacks, growing concerns over AI-driven threats, and shifting priorities for 2025. The report comes as cybercrime losses are estimated to reach $10.5 trillion by the end of this year, up from $8 trillion in 2023. To see the full findings, check out the complete report here.
“The scale of online threats is unprecedented, and cybercriminals are weaponizing AI faster than businesses can react. Organizations must prioritize AI-powered defenses that don’t just detect threats but neutralize them in real-time,” said Yoav Keren, CEO and co-founder of BrandShield.
66% of CISOs Reported Losses Exceeding $1 Million
Across the globe, CISOs reported an average of $1.7 million lost per attack with 66% of organizations experiencing losses of at least $1 million per attack. However, there was a significant difference in the amount lost based on the region where the organization is based. The UK reported the highest average losses at $2.05 million, 30% higher than the U.S. ($1.54 million) and above the EU average of $1.64 million.
CISOs Identify Top 3 External Threats in 2025
Looking ahead, CISOs have identified a range of external threats that they anticipate as major cybersecurity challenges for the coming year. Rogue mobile apps, social media impersonations, and compromised credentials top the list, each cited by 27% of respondents. Phishing and scam sites are next on the list revealing CISO’s increased need for digital brand protection.
AI Poses Both a Threat and Benefit to Cybersecurity
AI’s potential impact on cybersecurity is a top concern for 99% of CISOs, with the top three challenges being the complexity of integration (23%), ethical use by cybersecurity practitioners (21%), and threat detection and response (16%). While AI is seen as a challenge, 98% of CISOs also acknowledge its potential to improve defenses as well.

Survey Methodology
In order to capture insights into the rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape and the increasing scale and sophistication of cyber threats, this survey was conducted by Global Surveyz Research, an independent survey organization, over a two-month period from September to October 2024. The report is based on insights gathered from survey responses from 200 CISOs from the US, the UK, and Europe across the finance, retail, and software sectors, with equal representation from each industry. All respondents were full-time employees, contributing a diverse view from companies of various sizes, evenly split between organizations with 100-1,000 employees and those with over 1,000 employees.
