Western Digital disclosed that an unauthorized actor gained access to a number of its systems, the company said Monday.
The data storage company believes the actors gained access to company data and in response, Western Digital took systems and services offline. The security incident was first discovered on March 26, and Western Digital is actively working to restore impacted infrastructure and services.
Customers have complained in a number of social media posts about not being able to access its My Cloud service. The company’s status page on Sunday showed a service outage and said another update would be provided Monday.
The company has implemented incident response efforts by contacting outside forensic and security experts and is coordinating its response with law enforcement. The investigation remains in its early stages.
Western Digital warned that operations may continue to be impacted as it works on remediating the security incident.
