Multiple systems at the Port of Seattle, which oversees one of the busiest ports in the U.S. and the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, are offline after an apparent cyberattack hit the government agency on Saturday.
“Earlier this morning the Port of Seattle experienced certain system outages indicating a possible cyberattack,” the official account for the airport posted Saturday afternoon on the social platform X. “The port isolated critical systems and is in the process of working to restore full service and do not have an estimated time for return.”
The sites for the port and airport were offline as of 8 a.m. Pacific time Monday morning. Outages for the phone systems, which the Port confirmed were down Saturday, continued into Monday morning. Calls to the port and airport failed, including the non-emergency line for the airport police department.
The last update from the airport, on Sunday morning, advised travelers to check their flight status early and allow for extra time to get through security.
“In-terminal screens are experiencing technical issues showing flight information, please check with your airline for the latest gate information,” the airport said Sunday on X.
The nation’s fifth-busiest container port in the U.S. first reported the outage Saturday morning on X, indicating the port and airport were experiencing an internet and web systems outage, which was impacting some systems at the airport.
The port, Department of Homeland Security, FBI and City of Seattle did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A representative from the Federal Aviation Administration referred inquiries to the airport.
