Dive Insight:
Fidelity Investments confirmed it began notifying certain customers that their personal information may have been compromised, according to a spokesperson.
“We take the protection of customer data and information seriously and it is a top priority for Fidelity,” the spokesperson said via email. “We continue to be in contact with Infosys McCamish and will take appropriate actions as needed.”
The incident is the second major breach of company data connected to Infosys McCamish. The company in November notified Bank of America about a breach of customer data enrolled in deferred compensation plans. That incident, which took place around the same dates, involved more than 57,000 Bank of America customers.
The breach of Bank of America customer data led to the exposure of names, addresses, business email addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and other information, according to a consumer breach notification filed with the Maine Attorney General’s office.
Bank of America’s systems were not impacted by the hack, according to the notification letter. A source familiar with Fidelity Investments, said that breach was not related to any security issues or breach of the Fidelity environment. There has been no related activity detected at Fidelity.
